War Resisters' International is concerned about the recent imprisonment of Israeli conscientious objector Noam Gur.

Noam Gur, 18 year old from Kiryat Motzkin near Haifa, arrived in the morning of Monday, 16 April, to the Induction Base in Tel Hashomer, where she declared her refusal to serve in the Israeli Army as it is an occupying force. She was sentenced to 10 days of imprisonment for her refusal.

War Resisters' International is concerned about the upcoming trial of South Korean conscientious objector Yoonjong Yoo on 4 April 2012. It is likely that he will be sentenced to 18 months' imprisonment and arrested at the end of the trial, or soon after, to serve his prison sentence.

On Friday, 24 February 2012, Turkish conscientious objector Halil Savda was arrested at 6.00am in the morning to serve a 100 days sentence for "alienating the people from the military" (Article 318 Turkish penal code).

Imprisoned pacifist blogger Maikel Nabil Sanad, who was sentenced to two years' imprisonment by a military court on 14 December 2011 following a re-trial, escalated his hunger strike on 18 December after more than 115 days. Previously, he had been drinking fruit juice with dairy, but since 18 December, he is only drinking water. With his hunger strike, he is demanding his release from prison.

Imprisoned pacifist blogger Maikel Nabil Sanad was sentenced to two years' imprisonment by a military court on 14 December 2011, after a re-trial that had been postponed repeatedly, and had turned into a complete farce.

In the case of imprisoned pacifist blogger Maikel Nabil Sanad, the military court on 7 December again postponed the trial against Maikel Nabil Sanad, this time to 14 December, for no apparent reason. On 27 November the court adjourned the trial to 4 December, to hear a new prosecution witness. Then, the trial was adjourned until 7 December, only to be adjourned yet another time.

War Resisters' International has been informed that conscientious objector Muhammed Serdar Delice has been arrested last night. War Resisters' International presently does not know where he is being held, or what he is charged with.

In the case of imprisoned pacifist blogger Maikel Nabil Sanad, the military court on 27 November again adjourned the trial, this time until 4 December, to hear a new prosecution witness.

In the case of imprisoned pacifist blogger Maikel Nabil Sanad, the military court on 13 November again adjourned the trial, this time until 27 November, to wait for the report of the internet service provider. At the hearing on 13 November, none of the witnesses called on 1 November showed up. Meanwhile, Maikel Nabil Sanad passed the 80th day of his hunger strike, surviving on fruit and dairy juices.

In the case of imprisoned pacifist blogger Maikel Nabil Sanad, the military court on 1 November again adjourned the trial, this time until 13 November, to call four witnesses. Meanwhile, Maikel Nabil Sanad passed the 70th day of his hunger strike.

War Resisters' International learned today that a military court ordered on 18 October to send imprisoned pacifist blogger Maikel Nabil Sanad to a psychiatric hospital for examination. According to the information received, the blogger is presently still being held in El Marg prison, and is on hunger strike since 23 August.

War Resisters' International has been informed that imprisoned pacifist blogger Maikel Nabil Sanad will not be released from prison pending his re-trial, although the appeal court on Tuesday declared the initial sentence null and void (see co-alert, 11 October 2011).

War Resisters' International is extremely concerned about the life of imprisoned pacifist blogger Maikel Nabil Sanad. Although the military appeal court declared the initial sentence of three years' imprisonment void, and ordered a re-trial of the blogger, who has been on hunger strike since 23 August, the court did not order his release pending re-trial.

Maikel Nabil Sanad, the imprisoned pacifist blogger and conscientious objector sentenced to three years' imprisonment for "insulting the military" on 10 April 2011 (see co-alert, 11 April 2011), escalated his hunger strike to include a thirst strike on 12 September 2011, after three weeks of hunger strike.
